Response to Donations

Postby slipknot » Sun Sep 21, 2008 9:37 pm

I was just thinking about the server and how to keep it funded. I was wondering if it would get further donations if there was some positive feedback given donors in the banner area for a couple of days. Like the small area up on the left under the GG5. Clan or Personal Avatar type of thing. Any ideas :?:

On one of the car forums I frequent they do something like this. When you donate they change the tag below your name from "Member" to "2008 Donating Member". It seems to work cause almost everyone donates.

That's an interesting idea. I wonder how easy it would be to do that?

Edit: I just checked and this is VERY easy to do.

FPSbanana.com does this. I donated on their site to remove all adds for a year :)

Yeah I did too. Of course their ads are a lot more invasive than ours. Maybe we should increase the number so there will be more incentive to donate?

I was thinking that 3 game server ads across the top would be good. I'd like to keep the top ads game-related, if possible.

I like the idea of having the "donator" status. That would be cool, as well as give them the incentive of having no/limited ads.

RG: Your idea would fit perfectly with the other idea. Donators would get no ads and the Donating Member status.

I have a question regarding the new donation methods in place. If a member donates $10 to remove adds, does that remove the clan banners as well?

Good question. I am not entirely sure.

However, if it did, and you were one of the clans with a banner ad, would that be a problem? You can give your opinion on it one way or the other. ;)

Well, my personal opinion would be that since those banners aren't "throughout" the site, they could stay. As a user, I don't mind those ones, and as a banner holder (I'm sure I will be), I would love for them to remain so everyone sees them. :)
