Short lag spike when player joins

Hi chaps,

I've recently rebuilt our Gungame Server from scratch as we have a new dedicated server. The old server was running Gungame5 with no issues.

The new server has been built with Gungame 5.1 and now when a player joins the server, all clients experience a small lag spike. Once they are on - it doesnt happen anymore - only when clients connect or retry.

Setup is :

Eventscripts 2.252
Sp_extensions_ep1
Gungame 5.1 R440
Sourcemod 1.2.4
Metamod Source v1.7.1V
zBlock 4.4


It is definatly not being caused by zblock as I have removed the plugin entirely during testing and it still happens. I also have a deathmatch server with the same plugin setup (minus Gungame obviously) and it doesnt happen on there.


If I unload or do not load Gungame - it also works fine.

Any ideas?

I've joined a couple of other servers runnging GG 5.1 and the issue seems apparent on them as well... however it is more obvious on 100tick servers. If you join 66/75 tick servers the lag spike is nowhere near as noticeable.

I do not have any ideas about this.

I do know that GunGame5.1 is running on 200+ servers without these issues, many of which are very popular and widely known.

GunGame is a large addon, and if your server is struggling for resources from the start, it is possible that there could be performance issues.

I'll have to spend some more time on this to diagnose it.

The server runs 2 quad core CPU's with 8gb of RAM, which we own and is hosted in one of the UK's biggest datacentres - so resources aren't and issue. We have 4 match servers, a deathmatch and a gungame server running and it doesn't hit 20% load. I've done testing with all other game instances stopped and the result is the same.
